PUBLIC & WEEKEND TOUR INFORMATION

SITES TO VISIT

Star of the Republic Museum

Public tours of the museum are self-guided. Please allow 1-2 hours to see everything. A twenty-minute video presentation is included in admission fee. Hand-held audio tour devices are also available at no charge.

The museum is open daily 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Closed Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve through New Year’s Day. Admission fee: $5/Adults, $3/students or children over age 6. Children 6 and under are admitted free. Brazos Passes are also available for multiple sites (see below.)

Barrington Living History Farm

Public tours of Barrington Living History Farm are self-guided and last approximately one hour. The farm is open Monday through Sunday 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Admission fee: $5/Adults, $3/students or children over age 6. Children 6 and under are admitted free. Brazos Passes are also available for multiple sites (see below.)

Please note: For visitor and staff safety, whenever inclement weather (thunder and lightening) is present, Barrington Farm will close and remain closed for 30 minutes after the last episode of thunder or lightening.

Independence Hall and Townsite

Tours leave from the front doors of the Visitor Center and progress past the amphitheater, continuing to the Brazos River Overlook, Ferry Street, and ending at the Independence Hall replica building. Admission fee: $5/Adults, $3/students or children over age 6. Children 6 and under are admitted free. Brazos Passes are also available for multiple sites (see below.)

Tours last approximately 50 minutes and involve walking 1/2 mile or so (includes some stairs and change in grade. Visitors should call ahead (936-878-2214 ext. 222) or inquire upon arrival to confirm the availability of public tours. Hand-held audio tour devices are also available.

Independence Hall/Townsite Public Tour Times

Weekend:

11:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m., 2:00 p.m., 3:00 p.m.

Weekdays:

Tours are offered at 11:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m., 2:00 p.m., and 3:00 p.m., unless scheduled groups are touring at those times. Visitors should call ahead (936-878-2214 ext. 222) and check with the Visitor Center, or inquire upon arrival, regarding the availability of public tours.

Park grounds are open 8:00 a.m. to sundown daily, year round. All buildings close at 5:00 p.m.

Visitor Center/Gift Shop

The Visitor Center is an excellent place to begin a tour of Washington-on-the-Brazos. This location provides restrooms, a gift shop, a comprehensive display explaining the various park sites and their historical significance, as well as the opportunity to buy tickets to any and all of the park’s three sites! The Gift Shop offers a wide range of Texas-themed items and keepsakes. No admission fee is required to the Visitor Center. The Visitor Center is open daily 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; the Gift Shop is open daily from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Refreshments or Lunch

There are currently no restaurant vendors within the Park. The pecan grove near the river offers twenty-six free picnic sites and two covered rental pavilions. Please contact the Park for current picnic area and trail information. The picnic pavilions may be reserved by calling (936) 878-2214, ext. 222.

No food or drinks are allowed inside the Museum, Visitor's Center, Independence Hall, or Barrington Farm. Please help us preserve and protect the integrity of this historic site!

Pets

Washington on the Brazos is pet-friendly, and you are welcome to explore the park grounds with your pets. However, for the safety and consideration of our other visitors, pets are NOT permitted inside the museum or at the Barrington Living History Farm site.

Purchasing Tickets (fees effective 04/16/09)

Tickets may be purchased at individual sites, or at the Visitor Center. Visitors desiring tickets to multiple sites may want to purchase a Brazos Pass for all sites:

Single site ticket: (admission to one of the above named sites):

Adult : $5.00

Student: $3.00

Family : $15.00– Includes 2 adults and up to 5 students

Brazos Pass (unlimited admission to all 3 sites, for one day only):

Adult: $9.00

Student: $6.00

Family: $27.00 – Includes 2 adults and up to 5 students
