Sites To Visit

• Star of the Republic Museum

Tour orientation offers an historic overview of the Texas Republic period through the use of a twenty minute film entitled, "Once a Nation." Following the video, an "on your own" self-guided tour of the Museum's exhibits will allow visitors to examine the social, political, and economic history of early Texas. Approximately 1 hour tour time allotted. Audio tours available.

• Barrington Living History Farm

Longhorn calf at Barrington FarmVisitors will have an opportunity to experience life in early Texas with a tour of Barrington Living History Farm, home of Anson Jones, last President of the Republic of Texas. Discover the sights, sounds and smells of life on a small cotton plantation in 1850. Try your hand at activities around the farm such as plowing, feeding the chickens, working in the garden, cooking on an open hearth or picking cotton. Life at Barrington changes with the seasons, so you will always find something new! Self-guided, approximately 1 hour allotted to see everything. Now open 7 days a week!.

• Independence Hall

With a guided tour of Independence Hall, visitors will learn about the beginnings of the Republic of Texas, the convention of the provisional government of 1836, and the Texas Declaration of Independence. Tour time, 30 minutes.

• Visitor Center/Gift Shop

The Visitor Center features interactive exhibits in the Gallery of the Republic which present a timeline of the Texas Revolution and highlight the historic attractions located within the Park. The Gift Shop offers a wide range of Texas-themed items and keepsakes. Visitors may tour this site at their own pace, but usually 30 minutes will be allowed on a group tour schedule.

Adult Tour Admission Fees

Group rates are available Monday-Friday for groups of 20 or more participants. With prior reservations, groups will be charged $6.00/person to see all three sites, $4.00/person for any one or two sites, and fees must be made in one payment for entire group. The group must stay together. Groups of less than 20 will be charged general public admission fees. There are no group rates available on the weekend.

Hours of Operation

The Park grounds are open daily from 8:00 a.m. until sundown. Independence Hall and Star of the Republic Museum and Barrington Farm are open daily, 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The Visitor’s Center and Gift Shop are open daily 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Refreshments or Lunch

There are currently no restaurant vendors within the Park. The pecan grove near the river offers twenty-six free picnic sites and two covered rental pavilions. Please contact the Park for current picnic area and trail information. The picnic pavilions may be reserved by calling (936) 878-2214, ext. 222.

No food or drinks are allowed inside the Museum, Visitor's Center, Independence Hall, or Barrington Farm. Please help us preserve and protect the integrity of this historic site!

To receive a group rate, reservations should be made at least two weeks prior to your visit and may be made by telephone.
