Introduction
Lorenzo de Zavala was born in Mexico in 1789 and came to Texas in 1835. He was an empresario and influential figure who signed the Mexican Constitution of 1824, was Governor of the State of Mexico in 1827 and 1833, and was Mexico’s ambassador to France from 1833-1835. In 1835, he also served as a representative to the Consultation and was Vice-President of the interim government of Texas. He died at home in November 1836.
