Introduction
Martin Parmer (1778-1850) was born in Charlotte County, Virginia, residing in Kentucky, Tennessee, Missouri, and Arkansas before arriving in Texas in 1825. A veteran of the War of 1812, he also served as a legislator, having been named as a delegate to Missouri’s Constitutional Convention in 1821. In Texas, Parmer fought in the Fredonian Rebellion in 1826 and was a delegate to the Consultation of 1835 and the Constitutional Convention of 1836. He signed the Texas Declaration of Independence and helped to draft the Constitution for the Republic of Texas.
