Are You a Descendant?
For the 175th anniversary of the signing of the
Texas Declaration of Independence from Mexico, the Star of the Republic
Museum enlisted the aid of dozens of volunteer genealogists to research
the lineage of the 59 delegates who signed the Declaration. Their
research is posted under the link to the left, “Family Trees.” Nearly
2000 living descendants were identified and invited to attend the
Texas Independence Day celebration at Washington-on-the-Brazos during
the weekend of February 26-27, 2011.
A new exhibit, “Fifty-nine for Freedom” will be
on exhibit at the Museum through December 2011. The exhibit displays
artifacts and documents related to the 59 delegates including a
portrait of Sam Maverick on loan from the Witte Museum, a miniature
portrait of Samuel Rhoads Fisher on loan from the Fisher family,
and a green velvet hat made for Sam Houston's 1841 inauguration
on loan from the Sam Houston Memorial Museum.
Family Trees. To view the genealogical
research that has been completed to date, click the link to the
left for Family Trees and find your ancestor's name. To protect
the privacy of individuals, no one born after 1910 has been included
in these trees.
Lineage Forms. If you were not contacted
by one of our researchers and would like to submit your lineage
information, please click the link to the left for Lineage Form.
Send the completed form to Dr. Shawn Carlson at scarlson@blinn.edu

More About the Signers. For additional
information, click the link to the left for More About the Signers.
This link takes you to the Texas Independence website that was recently
completed by the Museum and Park staff.
Forum. A forum (message board) has been
established on our website to enable descendants to communicate
with one another, post information about their Signer, or ask questions.
We have established a forum for each Signer because many of you
have indicated a desire to communicate with other descendants of
your ancestor who signed the Texas Declaration of Independence.
Since we are not posting any contact information about you in the
database, we thought this would be a way for those who wish to communicate
to do so. Please click on the link to the left to go to the message
board and check it out. You do not have to register to look at the
information that is posted, but you do have to register to add content
or ask a question. Basic instructions have been posted to help you
with the use of the forum.
Registry. The Museum is establishing a registry
of documented lineal descendants of the signers of the Texas Declaration
of Independence. To have your name listed on this registry, you
must be able to document your lineage. A certificate and medallion
have been specially designed for eligible descendants. Please click
the link to the left to find out more about the Registry.
